Gaelic Storm is a Celtic rock band that formed in 1996 outside of Los Angeles in the beach community of Santa Monica. The five-piece group utilizes traditional Scottish and Irish instruments including bagpipes, a fiddle and a tinwhistle, and adds it to a base of acoustic guitar-driven pub rock. As is the case with a lot of Celtic music, the rhythms are lively, dance-friendly and probably best enjoyed while swilling a decent amount of beer or other alcoholic spirits. In 1997, members of Gaelic Storm appeared in the blockbuster film Titanic, as the ship's steerage band, launching itself into widespread notoriety just before the release of its 1998 self-titled debut album.
