Austin-based quartet Soft Healer merges the genre lines between post punk minimalism and 1960s psych rock. Fairly experimental for a garage band, the group formed in 2008 and began exploring its influences through 7 minute long meandering pieces that touched on the avant-garde. Filling its music with monotone post punk vocals and a jumble of instruments that range from banjo to saxophone to 1960s-style organ, it's easy to see why Soft Healer grabbed the attention of Animal Collective's record label--notorious for harboring experimental, lo-fi bands--Paw Tracks, which signed the Soft Healer in 2010.
