Speculator is the stage name for Nicholas Ray, an indie pop musician from Los Angeles whose experiments with synthesizing the shoegaze and chillwave genres have many independent music critics lauding the present and potential efforts of the young artist. Deriving most of his artistic content from the nostalgia of the past three decades, Speculator joins the ranks of a new generation of musicians looking towards the feel-good remembrances of childhood for inspiration. However, this is not to say that Speculator's music lacks in originality. Many celebrate the young artists incredibly modern take on the past that not only reminds people of where they've been, but in some ways, inform them as to where they'll be going.
