The China Philharmonic Orchestra (CPO for short), based in Beijing, was founded in 2000 as the replacement for the older China Broadcasting Symphony Orchestra, and is a state-operated orchestra. The symphony has become a symbol of goodwill for China, has toured throughout the world to much recognition and acclaim--particularly in 2001 when the CPO performed in Taiwan.
