Jan Akkerman is a multi-instrumentalist from Amsterdam who is best-known for his work as a guitarist and lutenist. Though he released his debut album, Talent for Sale, in 1968, he rose to fame in the early 1970s as the core of the Dutch symphonic rock band Focus. With his own distinctive guitar style, characterized by his use of volume swells and smooth, sustained notes, Akkerman collected international critical accolades from major music publications across Europe. After Focus disbanded by 1978, he turned his attention to other projects and went on to release a string of solo records, including his 1979 self-titled effort, as well as collaborations with artists such as Tony Scott and Kaz Lux.
