Formed in Stockholm by Malin Dahlstrom and Gustaf Karlof, Niki and the Dove released its first single in late 2010 and immediately received a tremendous amount of attention from UK press, which compared the group to one of Sweden's most noteworthy modern exports, The Knife--if that band were to more fully embrace its Euro synthpop leanings. Like its countrymen, Niki and the Dove embraces dark, experimental pop leanings, using various objects and pieces of furniture as makeshift percussion, then distorting the results into reverb-laden tribal drum patterns. Since winning over fans in the UK, the duo caught the ear of pivotal American label Sub Pop, who signed the band for its debut album to be released in 2011.
