Keith Tippett was a British pianist, composer, and bandleader, known for his contributions to the European free jazz movement of the 1960s and 1970s. He began his career playing in various blues and soul bands before becoming a member of the Keith Tippett Sextet in the mid-1960s. He later formed his own ensemble, the Keith Tippett Group, which included musicians such as Elton Dean, Nick Evans, and Mark Charig. Tippett was also known for his collaborations with other musicians, including his work with the progressive rock group King Crimson on their album "In the Wake of Poseidon" and his collaborations with German pianist Alexander von Schlippenbach. He was highly respected in the jazz and avant-garde music communities and continued to perform and record music up until his death in 2020.
