Aston George Taylor Jr., professionally known as Funkmaster Flex, is a prominent American DJ, rapper, record producer, and radio host on New York City's Hot 97 station. Born to Jamaican immigrant parents in the Bronx, he grew up in a strict, religious household. At the young age of 16, he started DJing at local nightclubs, and by 19, he was working with Chuck Chillout at 98.7 Kiss-FM. In 1992, he began hosting his own specialized rap program on Hot 97, becoming the first pop station in New York to feature rap. Flex's iconic "bomb drop" sound effect and his role in promoting hip hop have solidified his status as a celebrated figure in the music industry.
