Singer/songwriter Jill Sobule emerged out of Denver, CO in 1995 with her then-controversial single "I Kissed a Girl." After her debut album Things Here Are Different, was met with lackluster attention in 1990, she dropped her self-titled 1995 record and launched her under the radar career into mainstream light. Filled sharp critiques of pop culture, the album solidified Sobule as part of the alternative female singer/songwriter movement of the 1990s among the likes of Alanis Morisette and Lisa Loeb with the unexpected radio hit, "I Kissed a Girl," as well as her song "Supermodel," which was featured on the soundtrack for the 1995 classic Clueless. Though her mainstream notoriety faded into the 2000s, she continues to release studio albums including 2009's California Years, with the same brand of fiery pop that made her famous.
