The Philly Pops is a pianist from Brooklyn, New York, who has been studying piano since he was 7 years old. He earned quick recognition with his debut album in 1961, winning the Grammy Award for Best New Artist later that year and setting the tone for his lucrative career. A staple of variety and talk shows during the 1960s and 1970s, with nearly a dozen appearances on The Ed Sullivan Show alone, he became a beloved national figure of both pop and jazz music. As the leader of The Philly Pops, an orchestra based in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, he continues to deliver golden age pop, swing and Broadway tunes to audiences each year.
