Steve Smith is widely regarded as being one of the premier jazz drummers of his generation. In his group Vital Information, the prodigious stickman leads an assortment of adept jazz instrumentalists through fusion tunes. Releasing its eponymously-titled debut LP in 1983, the group has spent the better part of its decades long existence touring jazz clubs and impressing many a jazz aficionado. Though Vital Information might not receive the attention it truly deserves, many connoisseurs of jazz fusion hold the band in extremely high regard.
