Critically acclaimed for spanning the emotional spectrum from tragic to hilarious, The Waiting Room is a dark comedy and drama written by Lisa Loomer that debuted both off and on Broadway in 2010. Set in a modern doctor's waiting room, the story brings together three women from different centuries: an 18th century Chinese woman with bound feet, a 19th century English woman suffering with hysteria from her tight corset, and a a modern woman experiences complications with her silicone breast implants. Praised for its bold, risky and moving take on the quest and cost of beauty, The Waiting Room examines the nature of medical and sexual politics as well as the roles that doctors, husbands, the FDA and philosophy play in gender roles and beauty expectations.
