The Konzerthausorchester Berlin is a symphony orchestra that was founded in 1952 as the Berliner Sinfonie-Orchester. As one of two symphonies located in Berlin, the orchestra rivals the West Berlin-based Berliner Symphoniker in artistic integrity as well as popularity. Chief conductor Iván Fischer was named Konzerthausorchester Berlin's eighth principal conductor in 2011, succeeding a series of prestigious concert leaders including Claus Peter Flor, Kurt Sanderling and most recently, Lothar Zagrosek.
