During his day, Louis Armstrong became one of the more revered individuals in the jazz music community, who was known nearly as much for his lively stage presence as he was for his music. Though the Satchmo, as he was endearingly referred to, died of a heart attack during his sleep in 1971, a month before his 70th birthday, The Louis Armstrong Centennial Band manages to keep his spirited jazz music alive for a new generation of fans. It's undoubtedly impossible to recreate Mr. Armstrong's persona, but by dutifully mastering his songs, the Centennial Band is able to play the music nearly exactly as it was performed decades ago.
