Broken Note's darkly raw approach to dubstep benefits from the contrasting backgrounds of its two creators. The two London-based DJs, one with a history in hip-hop and the other in punk rock, utilize rough, sometimes grating jungle and heavy breakcore beats. The wobbly rhythms and sci-fi bass blasts of dubstep can be heard in Broken Note's music, but the heaviness in its execution makes for a decidedly more pummeling variation of the genre that should appeal to fans of dark, hard-hitting electronic music. The duo's debut EP, Crux and Zealot, was released in 2008.
