Detroit's The Sugar People create so-called "cinematic pop" music, a newer style that fuses electronically programmed beats as well as funk and jazz. Drawing on the music of Bond films, gangster films and other films of the 1960s and 70s, cinematic pop has elements of vintage appeal as well as contemporary future-looking music. The band has grown an intimate, loyal following on the heels of the success from cinematic pop heavyweights like Thievery Corporation, and found a niche that is proving successful.
