Dabbling in electronic dance, electroclash and even rock and roll, the Paris-based outfit Black Strobe has been a chameleon-like presence on France's music scene since 1996. The group originally played house music, exemplifying the genre's trademarks with pulsing four-on-the-floor beats and swirling electronics. Soon, however, guitar-driven genres such as post punk and industrial started to wear off on Black Strobe and it began to build tracks around beefy riffs and beats melded together with the in-your-face styles of electroclash. The band gained widespread recognition when its song "I'm a Man" was included on the soundtrack for the popular Guy Ritchie film, RocknRolla, in 2008.
