With her fragile, smokey voice and penchant for penning timeless sounding melodies, it's no wonder that Abigail Lapell has quickly found a devoted fan base within the Canadian folk community. Great Survivor, her 2011 debut album, took her sparsely effective sound and expanded it a bit to incorporate banjo, piano, drums and violin. During live performances, however, it's the starkly personal dependence on just voice and acoustic guitar that gives Lapell's shows the atmospheric and confessional feel her fans are coming to expect. With coast-to-coast tours and festival performances now under her belt, there seems to be little stopping her from becoming an integral part of Canada's folk scene.
