Diamanda Galás is a avant-garde musician from San Diego, California who has distinguished herself as one of her generation's premier experimental artists over her decades long career. Galas made her debut solo performance in 1979 at the Festival d'Avignon in France and released her debut album, The Litanies of Satan, in 1982. With a singing style that has been dubbed as "capable of the most unnerving vocal terror," Galás writes lyrics that center around a number of topics including mental illness, despair, condemnation and loss of dignity. In addition to maintaining a busy solo career, she has worked with a number of well known musicians including John Zorn, Bobby Bradford and John Paul Jones.
