Austrian-born Anton Webern is a renowned composer and conductor active from the turn of the 20th century until the mid 1900s. As a student of Arnold Schoenberg, Webern mastered the 12-tone technique purported by Shoenberg. His intricate compositions created the basis for what would later become known as total serialism, reflective of Webern's innovative use of pitch and rhythmic dynamics. The body of work left behind Webern is small but rich, and although none of his works were performed during his lifetime, his legacy has endured as a deeply influential composer.
