Pharoahe Monch and Prince Poetry make up the Queens-based hip hop duo Organized Konfusion. Although the group never achieved mainstream success, it was arguably the most respected and acclaimed act in the 1990s hip hop underground. Prince Poetry and Pharoahe Monch originally called themselves Simply II Positive MCs, and the pair caught the attention of hip hop producer Paul C with its smart lyricism. Organized Konfusion recorded and released its first single "Memories of Love" in 1987, shortly before signing with Hollywood BASIC. In 1991, the duo released its self-titled and self-produced debut album to critical acclaim. Organized Konfusion collaborated with other hip hop artists such as Wu-Tan Clan, Fat Joe and A Tribe Called Quest's Q-Tip. After two more albums, including its final 1997 release The Equinox, the pair separated to pursue solo careers and to preserve the name and experience of Organized Konfusion.
