With her booming and uniquely elastic singing style, Dagmar Krause is one of the more easily identifiable vocalists in Germany's musical history. She was born in Hamburg in 1950 and began singing while still in her teens. In the 1970s, she sang for both the rock group Slapp Happy and an experimental outfit known as Henry Cow, both of which instilled in her some of the rock and avant-garde leanings she'd eventually incorporate into her solo career. Whether singing in English or German, Krause's powerful voice is unmistakable in its oddly endearing tone and projection. Her solo work in the 1980s explored her love for cabaret music, somewhat polarizing audience's opinions in the process. Now into her 60s, Krause continues to perform solo and often collaborates with like-minded musicians throughout Western Europe.
