Upholding the psychedelic lineage of Athens, Georgia-based bands that came before them, such as of Montreal and Elf Power, Quiet Hooves is a loose collective of indie pop musicians. The band combines jangly and disheveled melodies with a wide-eyed adventurous streak that incorporates quirky instrumentation ranging from horns and accordion to synthesizers and toy pianos. Too often in psychedelic pop music, bands sacrifice discernible hooks to solely focus on experimentation--a trapping that Quiet Hooves luckily manages to avoid. The band piles plenty of catchy melodies and blue-collar harmonies atop its energetic "anything goes" sonic approach, making it accessible and fun no matter how freewheeling it decides to get.
