Although the Stockton, California-based group Authorities played its first gig in 1979, the band was not able to find lasting success. The band played a number of shows in Central and Northern California in the early-1980s, but as time wore on, Authorities lost members who were interested in doing something with their lives instead of being in an unpopular rock band. Occasionally the old gang will reconvene to play special shows, where the original spark of excitement that was ignited in the late-1970s is still flickering as the band plays.
