Rokia Traoré

Rokia Traore is a signer/songwriter from Kolokani, Mali who has risen to prominence by creating music that blends modern pop music stylings with traditional sounds from her homeland. Born to a diplomat father, Traore would spend a lot of time traveling during her youth, inadvertently soaking up regionalized cultures in Algeria, Saudia Arabia, France and Belgium. Raore released her debut album, Mouneissa, in 1998 and since then the talented musician has managed to become one of the more recognizable figures of the modern world music scene.
