Though each member of Chief grew up in Santa Monica, they didn't meet until all four wound up attending school at NYU across the country. Already having written songs under the name Chief, Evan Koga started looking for a band to perform with and found three other LA natives. Honing its indie folk-rock sound that, despite the foursome's origin, harbors a southern blues vibe, Chief played numerous shows while attending school and eventually grabbed the attention of Domino Records. After finishing school, the band moved back to its home city and has devoted its time to focusing on Chief's music and touring schedule.
