Founding member of slowcore bands Galaxie 500 and Luna, Dean Wareham first branched out from his bands in 2003 to go solo, but upon hearing other Luna member Britta Phillips demos, asked her to start a duo with him instead. The band's first album L'Avventura was released to much acclaim and spawned many artists to create remixes of the albums' songs. After this success, the duo decided to work primarily on scoring films and most notably produced the soundtrack for the Noah Baumbach film A Squid and a Whale. The two were married in 2007 and released a few more albums full of densely layered indie pop, while touring to build their fan base.
