Born Ewart Beckford and also known as The Originator, U-Roy is a Jamaican singer and a pioneer of toasting. Known for his melodic style of toasting, the act of chanting over a rhythm, he dropped his debut album, Version Galore, in 1970, and has since continued to release his signature brand of dancehall and dub music, always interwoven with Rastafarianism.
