Jon Butcher is a singer/songwriter, producer and renowned blues guitarist from Philadelphia. During the mid-1970s he spent his time playing with the Boston-based project Johanna Wild, before starting his own band, Jon Butcher Axis. While garnering comparisons to Jimi Hendrix that he continuously refuted, Butcher became a staple of the Boston Music scene as his band began to tour the US with acts such as The J. Geils Band and Rush. The power trio released its self-titled debut album in 1983, followed by 1984's Stare at the Sun, and the commercial and critical success of both LPs earned John Butcher Axis a contract with Capitol Records. Starting in 1987 with Butcher's most renowned record Wishes, his band began to use his name as its moniker, releasing records simply as Jon Butcher. As the band saw the end of its run, he contributed to various multimedia projects before dropping his debut solo LP Positively the Blues, in 1995. He has since continued to record his own material, including his fifth studio album American Dream, in 2004.
