Robert Benigni is an Italian actor, comedian, writer and director who is probably best known for directing and staring in his career defining 1997 film Life Is Beautiful. With modest origins from a small town in eastern Tuscany, Bengini would move to Rome in 1971 where he would go on to star and occasionally direct experimental theater shows. Going on to establish himself as a diverse actor in his native Italy, Benigni's prominence would rise after he started in the 1986 film Down By Law, by American art house director Jim Jarmusch. Continuing to lead a well respected film career, Benigni also performs one man shows that showcase his affable demeanor and ability to interject slightly absurd physical humor into an everyday context.
