La Ley is an alternative pop rock band that emerged out of Santiago, Chile in 1987. Though the group's ill-conceived first record was a commercial failure, the band quickly rebounded with 1990's Doble Opuesto, which captured a widespread Latin American audience with its dark tone and experimental textures. As the band built a solid catalog of records throughout the 1990s, tensions within the lineup peaked, resulting in the departure of more than half of its members. La Ley recovered with a fresh lineup and a more pop rock oriented sound. Though the band's new style didn't suit much of its existing following, La Ley went on to earn massive international attention with its two consecutive albums, 2000's Uno and 2003's Libertad, collecting a total of one Grammy and two Latin Grammy's for both records combined. Despite the acclaim, La Ley split up in 2005 but eventually reunited in 2013 with founders Mauricio Clavaria and Beto Cuevas at the helm.
