Juanita Stein is a singer/songwriter and guitarist who is best-known as the lead singer of the band Howling Bells. She got her start singing soft folk music in various outfits before teaming up with her brother Joel Stein to form the band Waikiki. The group released its first and only album I'm Already Home, in 2002. After Waikiki disbanded in 2004, Stein formed the band Howling Bells and she wasted no time channeling her songwriting into an infectious and mostly acoustic indie rock aesthetic. It wasn't until she had three Howling Bells albums under her belt that she began work on her first solo album. Stein finally released the LP, titled America, with Handwritten Records in 2017.
