Victor/Victoria is a 1995 Broadway musical based on the 1982 musical film of the same name with music by Henri Mancini and lyrics by Leslie Bricusse. The story follows an out of work female soprano singer in Paris who finds success by pretending to be a man who performs as a female impersonator, only to have things complicated by a Chicago mobster who falls in love with her. The musical's run on Broadway, though successful, was later marred by controversy when Julie Andrews (star of the original film and Broadway cast) rejected her nomination for a Tony Award (the only nomination for the musical that year) due to the fact that the musical as a whole was egregiously overlooked.
