With the over saturation of rock guitarists, playing an absurd amount of notes in as little amount of time possible, it's refreshing to come across a six-string virtuoso like Doug MacDonald who's able to entice listeners with an extremely adept, yet unflashy playing style. Based out of Los Angeles, MacDonald incorporates a staggering amount of genres into his unpretentious and entirely unique jazz playing style; and even though he hasn't had widespread comercial success, he's respected by nearly everyone who has ever attempted to pick up a guitar and strum it. His first LP, 1996's About Warm Valley, established the talented musician as a guitar player who doesn't need effects pedals or an instrumentally dexterous backing band to bolster his rich sound.
