Based in Southern Texas, Brownout is an Afro-Latin funk band that has allowed its close proximity to the Mexican border to flavor its sonic aesthetic. Starting with its debut LP, Homenaje, which was released in 2008, the group has channeled its South American and African influences into an extremely dance-friendly amalgam of Latin percussion, funk-inspired guitar riffs and a tight, jazzy horn section.
