Steve Vai is an American guitarist and songwriter who is considered to be a guitar virtuoso and one of the best living guitarists. Vai started to play the guitar at the age of 13, after being inspired by Jimmy Page's solo on the Led Zeppelin track "Heartbreaker," eventually going on to take lessons from Joe Satriani - who would also go onto have a career as a guitar luminary. After working as a transcriptionist for Frank Zappa, Vai was eventually asked to join Zappa's band in 1980, but eventually left the group to concentrate on his own musical endeavors, starting in 1984 with his debut solo LP, Flex-Able. Over his decades long career, Vai has proven his worth as one of the more talented guitar players of his generations and has played with an astonishing array of musicians and bands including Public Image Limited, David Lee Roth and Whitesnake.
