The Folk Implosion was an American 1990s indie rock and lo-fi outfit led by Lou Barlow, formerly of Sebadoh. Alongside John Davis, Barlow used the project to explore material that hadn't fit in with his primary band's output. The group existed primarily far under the radar until its song "Natural One" became an unexpected alternative rock radio hit after being featured in the controversial 1995 film, Kids. With Barlow's prolific songwriting talents and Davis' affinity for creatively lo-fi recording techniques, Folk Implosion was a unique group that was able to experiment with a wide array of sounds and styles, perhaps best represented on the electronically-infused pop of One Part Lullaby, its 1999 album. Davis left the band in 2000, forcing Barlow to piece together a new lineup that he dubbed The New Folk Implosion. One album was released under the new name to lukewarm reception and low album sales, and by all accounts, the group called in quits around 2004.
