Vonda Shepard is an American rock and pop singer best known for her appearances on the popular 1990s television show, Ally McBeal. The pianist/guitarist was born in New York but grew up in California, where she took to music at a young age. Years later, one of Shepard's shows impressed David E. Kelley, the creator of Ally McBeal, who quickly asked her to take on a regular acting role on the show and contribute songs to its soundtrack. Hit singles from the show included "Searchin' My Soul" and "Tell Him," both of which are characterized by Shepard's endearing mix of uptempo rock and R&B-tinged vocal pop.
