Formed by four classically trained musicians, Scythian is a Washington DC band rooted in Celtic music. Initially a group of street performers, the band won a competition in a respected DC newspaper for best local band, which rose it to prominence. While keeping the primary focus of its music on Celtic tradition, Scythian also draws on elements of gypsy punk, jazz and rock, just as the group mixes traditional jigs with modern cover songs. Winning over a diverse group of fans since forming in 2002 and landing a cameo in the M. Night Shyamalan film The Village, Scythian has established itself as one of the premier Celtic fusion bands in the US.
