UK band Steel Pulse is one of the world's greatest surviving roots reggae bands. Beginning in the late 1970s, the band made a name for themselves as one of the first group's outside of Jamaica to writing memorable roots reggae music. Loyal to Rastafarianism and the subjects and themes of reggae music, the group touches on UK-specific issues of immigration and politics while also speaking to larger world issues. The group's 1986 album Babylon the Bandit won the Grammy for Best Reggae Album of the year, and continues to be a classic alongside albums like Handsworth Revolution and True Democracy.
