Gidon Kremer is a violinist and conductor from Riga, Latvia who is perhaps best known for his extensive mastery of the classical violin repertoire as well as his success at championing the works for violin by several famed contemporary composers. Having studied with world-famous Russian violinist David Oistrakh at the Moscow Conservatory as a young man, Kremer went on to achieve top prizes at several prestigious music competitions throughout the world, of which his 1970 first place win at the International Tchaikovsky Competition stands as his most important competitive achievement. Renowned as one of the today's greatest living violinists, Gidon Kremer is often sought out to work with the world's top instrumentalists, composers and conductors.
