During the 1970s there was a flood of groups that released artistically inclined "concept" albums that highlighted these various bands' creativity and ingenious songwriting abilities. One of these groups was the English progressive rock troupe Supertramp. Though the band doesn't frill listeners with instrumental onslaughts and noodling scale repetitions, the band still holds dutifully onto the progressive rock title and is even considered to be one of the godfathers of the genre. The easy-to-like group got its start in 1969 and though it has broken up on a few separate occasions, the band is back at it and playing as strong as it ever has.
