Ace Frehley is an American guitarist who is probably best known for his founding role in the New York glam rock band KISS. Frehley had been a guitar player since a young age and had played in a number of different bands until a close friend of his spotted an ad in a newspaper looking for a guitarist to fill out a three-piece band's sound. Frehley went and auditioned for the position and was eventually awarded the job. Because the group wanted to stick out above the myriad of other groups in the New York area, the members decided it would be a good idea to wear extravagant clothing and paint their faces in black, white and silver makeup. This tactic managed to win over the group with a wide swath of fans and KISS became one of the biggest groups to emerge out of the 1970s rock haze. Frehley left the band in 1982 to pursue a solo career, but would later return to the band for a successful reunion tour in 2006.
