Based on a story of Joseph found in the Bible's Book of Genesis, Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat is a musical theater production and the first Andrew Lloyd Webber and Tim Rice collaboration to be staged for a public audience in 1968. The family-friendly, sung-through show has become a world-wide hit, having been performed on all levels of theater from schools to community theaters since its debut in the West End in 1973 and on Broadway in 1982. The show follows the Biblical story of Joseph, a prophet whose brightly colored coat was given to him to show his father's favor. Driven by jealousy, his brothers sell him as a slave and falsely proclaim his death. Though he endures several hardships, Joseph eventually makes his way back home with the help of a spirit he sees in his dreams.
