Enigma Variations is the crown jewel of British composer Edawrd Elgar's repertoire. Also known as Variations, Op. 36, the symphonic piece contains 14 variations of an original theme, with each variation being a musical portrait of a member of Elgar's inner circle, including his long-time friend and publisher Augustus J. Jaeger as well as his wife.
