Though Chicago might seem like an odd place for a bluegrass outfit to establish itself, the band Henhouse Prowlers has managed to do it and build a reputation for itself as one of the more talented forward-thinking bluegrass groups in the United States. With an ardent respect for the pioneers that laid the groundwork for the bluegrass genre, Henhouse Prowlers nod to folk's forefathers as well as incorporating more modern influences to add a bit of spice to the band's unique sound. The band received a good amount of attention in 2009 for its album A Dark Rumor--an LP that perfectly encapsulated the group's characteristic approach to bluegrass--and as the group continues to push the boundaries of its sound, it will undoubtedly continue to prove itself as a band to watch.
