Helado Negro, literally translated to "Black Ice Cream," is the solo project of Roberto Carlos Lange. Born and raised in Florida by Ecuadorian immigrant parents, this upbringing is evident in Lange's music, which includes Spanish lyrics and is reminiscent of summertime heat waves intense enough to induce mirages, stiffing humidity and welcome coastal breezes. Thus, the music of Helado Negro essentially is a Latin form of chillwave, but is tinged with acoustic psych-folk. In addition to his work under the Helado Negro moniker, the now Brooklyn-based Lange has scored several films, produces for Prefuse 73 and creates the animation for his music videos.
