Before the respective guitarists from bands like My Bloody Valentine, Rage Against the Machine and Radiohead received accolades for incorporating a wide array of effects pedals into their playing to bolster the creative sound of the band, virtuosic guitar player Bill Frisell was using them and pioneering a unique style of altered guitar sound manipulation. While his style is nearly impossible to pigeonhole (he plays jazz, rock, avant-garde, folk, et al.), by incorporating a vast array of pedals, Frisell has always managed to keep his playing unique, innovative and on the cutting edge of technological advancement. Frisell built his first guitar in 1955 and over the years he has built a more than respectable relationship with his instrument.
