Probably best known as the producer, star and writer of his eponymously-titled television sitcom, George Lopez is one of the more prominent Mexican-American comedians who isn't afraid to touch on subjects that some might consider taboo. The Los Angeles-based comedian got his start on the stand up circuit and shortly managed to build up enough steam for television insiders to notice him. With the sever lack of Mexican-American comedies on television, some thought that it was time to give Lopez a show of his own so he could latch on to a large demographic that has historically gone untapped. George Lopez premiered on ABC in 2002 and had a successful run of six seasons. After the show concluded in 2007, Lopez went on to host a short-lived talk show called Lopez Tonight. Though he can be found making cameo apparences in various television shows and movies, Lopez has gone back to performing the one thing that helped break him in the world of showbiz: stand-up comedy.
