Cowboy Junkies is an alternative folk/rock band from Toronto that was formed in 1985, when the band began performing at the famed Canadian music venue Toronto's Queen Street West. The group's debut album Whites Off Earth Now!!, was recorded in a garage using only an ambisonic microphone. It was Cowboy Junkies' 1988 album The Trinity Sessions, a certified double platinum record which featured a version of The Velvet Underground's "Sweet Jane," that exposed the band to a wider audience. Though the Cowboy Junkies maintained success in its home country, where it earned another platinum album and three gold albums, The Trinity Sessions was the band's only hit record outside of Canada. The band seems unfazed by its lack of mainstream success and continues to consistently release material, including its 2011 efforts, the Demons album and Sing In My Meadow EP.
